Grade 8-9 Transition Info!

NOTE: All students in Gr 8 at ROMS automatically have a place in Gr 9 at Claremont (no application is needed other than the completion of a Gr 9 Course Selection Form). If your child is considering attending a high school other than Claremont, you should be checking their website now for application information. Gr 8 students NOT going to Claremont are expected to take part in all of the above transition activities. It is advisable to have your child complete a Gr 9 course selection form for Claremont unless you have a confirmed placement at another school.

Wed, Jan 21, 6-7pm | ROMS PAC Mtg in the LC - Claremont Admin will be the guest speakers | The regular January PAC meeting will start at 7pm. Gr 8 parents/guardians are invited to attend from 6-7pm to meet the Claremont Admin. This meeting is not for students. |
Wed, Feb 4, 6-8pm at Claremont | Claremont Sports Institute Info Evening | Find out about the CSI programs at Claremont. The meeting will include information about each program and how to apply. |
Fri, Feb 6, Block 1 and 2 | Claremont will visit ROMS to talk about “A Day in Highschool” | Students in the Pursuit of Excellence Program will visit each Gr 8 class and share what highschool is all about. |
Wed, Feb 11, Block 1 and 2 | Gr 9 Course Selection Forms handed out at ROMS | A team from Claremont will visit each Gr 8 class, hand out Gr 9 course selection forms and explain how to fill them out. It is very important that students attend this session. |
Thurs, Feb 12 evening | Claremont Parent Info Night ( details to follow) | An opportunity for Gr 8 parents to visit Claremont and hear about the Gr 9 program and also the specialty programs that require additional application/references etc. |
Tues, Feb 17, Bl 1 and 2 | Claremont Performing Arts Assembly at ROMS | Students and teachers from Claremont will visit ROMS and share more about the P. Arts programs. |
Feb 19 and 20 | Parent/Guardian Phone Calls with C’Mont Counsellor Re: Course Selection | This is an opportunity for parents to talk to a Claremont counsellor about any questions you have about Gr 9 course selection. Call the ROMS office at 250 479-7128 the week before to book a timeslot for a phone call. |
Mon, Feb 23 | Gr 9 Course Selection Forms DUE TO ROMS | Please return your child’s Course Selection form to their Gr 8 teacher at ROMS. REMINDER: if your child is applying for any specialty programs, the application form needs to handed in with their Course Selection Form. |
Tues, May 5 Bl 1 and 2 | Fieldtrip: Claremont Tours | Gr 8s will be bussed to Claremont to tour the school and hear more about the Gr 9 year - permission form to follow |
Thurs, May 14 evening | Inclusive Ed Open House | This is for parents of Gr 8 students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP). An email with more details will follow. |
Tues, May 19 10:45-2pm | Fieldtrip: Claremont Musical | Gr 8s will be bussed to Claremont to see the musical “Cabaret” - permission form to come |
Thurs, May 28th, Bl 1 and 2 | C Mont Q/A for Gr 8 classes | A team of Claremont staff and students will come to ROMS and visit individual classes to answer questions |
Tues, June 23 | Gr 8 Farewell (6-8pm) Details to come | This event is for Gr 8 students to celebrate the completion of their middle school years. The Gr 8 Farewell Parent C’tee is planning a great event with food, decorations, games and a dance. |
