Principal's Welcome Back Message, Sept 2023
Dear ROMS families,
We are looking forward to the 2023-24 school year which begins on Tues, Sept 5. A special welcome to our newest ROMS Eagles and welcome back to our Gr 7 and 8 students, we've missed you! Below you will find some important start up information to help you get ready for the new school year. I will send "Parent Weekly Updates" out to families via email every second Friday throughout the school year, so please ensure that the email information we have for you is correct.
FIRST DAY/WEEK
The first day of school is Tues, Sept 5th from 9-10:30am for all students. Staff will be circulating around the school grounds starting at 8:40am. When students arrive, they should find any staff member who will then let them know their new division/teacher. Gr 6, Multi and Gr 7 students will line up on the field behind the cone with their division number. Gr 8 students will line up on the lower basketball courts. Once teachers have their class ready to go, they will escort them into the school and into their new classroom. Students DO NOT need to bring their school supplies on the first day, the classroom teacher will give students instructions about their school supplies and when to bring them (ROMS School Supply List). School busses will be running on the first day of school and will pick students up just after 10:30 in front of the school. The first full day of school is Wed, Sept 6th from 9:00am-3:08pm. It will be a homeroom-based day and students will begin moving around the school to FAAS/PE starting on Thurs, Sept 7th.
ROMS COMMUNICATION
One of the best ways to stay on top of communication from ROMS is to read our “Parent Weekly” and to regularly check the ROMS website at: http://royaloak.saanichschools.ca It is a great place to go for updated information about athletics, fine arts, upcoming events and all things "ROMS!"
PARKING & STUDENT DROP-OFF/PICK-UP
Due to traffic congestion, we request that families DO NOT pick up and drop off students via the main driveway during the busy times from 8:30 to 9:00 am and 3:00 to 3:30 pm. Outside of these times, you can come down the main driveway and drop off/pick up in front of the school, but please observe the designated bus and handicap parking spaces. At peak times, please drop off and pick up your child on Greenlea Drive or arrange to meet your child at another nearby location.
LOCKS
Grade 6 students will receive their lock from their homeroom teacher during the first week of school. For safety reasons, we ask that all students use a school-issued lock. The cost for a lock is $10 and all families will be billed via your online student account. Grade 7 and 8 students who do not have a school-issued lock, please purchase one from the office on Wed, Sept 6. We also have used locks for sale in the office for $5 if your child has lost their lock and needs a replacement.
SAFE ARRIVAL PROGRAM
Please email us at: royaloak_attendance@saanichschools.ca if your child will be absent or late. We will call you to check on your child safety if we do not receive an email, so please help us out by letting us know if your child is absent (including early sign out/late arrival information for doctor/dentist etc appointments).
Lots more information to come! Looking forward to a great year ahead!
