First Day of School
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are thrilled to welcome all students, both new and returning, to Royal Oak for the 2026 to 2027 school year!
As we prepare for another exciting year of learning and growth, we are looking forward to strengthening our focus on literacy, student well being, and regular school attendance. These priorities are closely connected and play a vital role in helping every learner reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
This year, we will be placing an increased emphasis on student attendance. Regular attendance helps students build strong academic skills, meaningful relationships, and a sense of belonging within our school community. We know that attendance challenges can arise for a variety of reasons, and we are deeply committed to working alongside families with care, understanding, and support. Our goal is to partner with families to identify barriers, connect students with the supports they need, and ensure every student feels welcomed, connected, and successful at school.
School Start-Up – Tuesday, September 8, 2026 | 9:00 - 10:30
Staff will be circulating around the school grounds starting at 8:40am.
When students arrive, they should find any staff member who will then let them know their new division/teacher.
Gr 6, Multi and Gr 7 students will line up on the field behind the cone with their division number.
Gr 8 students will line up on the lower basketball courts. Once teachers have their class ready to go, they will escort them into the school and into their new classroom.
Please note:
We ask that parents/guardians drop off students no more than 15 minutes early.
We are unable to meet with families on the first day. If you need to speak with school staff, please email us at royaloak@saanichschools.ca to book an appointment.
Bus service will be available, regular morning route times and schedules will apply. Buses will start transporting students’ home at approximately 10:45-11:00am. Please check the Saanich Schools website for routes and times, and ensure your child is registered.
Please do not send school supplies on the first day. The classroom teacher will give students instructions about their school supplies and when to bring them.
